UL 464A STANDARD FOR SAFETY Audible Signal Appliances for GeneralSignaling Use
1 Scope
1.1 These requirements cover electrically and electronically operated bells, buzzers, horns, and similaraudible signal appliances, rated 300 volts or less, for commercial general signaling service and intendedfor indoor or outdoor locations or both in accordance with the National Electrical Code,NFPA70.
1.2These requirements cover audible signal appliances for use in ordinary locations.Audible signalappliances for use in hazardous locations, as defined in the National Electrical Code,NFPA70, are judgedon the basis of their compliance with these requirements and further appropriate examination and tests todetermine if they are acceptable for such use.
1.3These requirements do not cover door bells, buzzers, and chimes used in household and similarapplications and intended for operation on Class 2 signal circuits as defined in the National ElectricalCode, NFPA 70.
1.4These requirements do not cover audible signaling appliances intended for fire alarm or emergencycommunications use as defined by the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code,NFPA72.
1.5 A supplemental visual signal incorporated as part of an audible signal appliance shall also complywith the requirements of this Standard.

2.1Components
2.1.1— Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply withthe requirements for that component.See Appendix A for a list of standards covering componentsgenerally used in the products covered by this standard.
2.1.2A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:
a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this standard, or
b) ls superseded by a requirement in this standard.
